ORGANIZED CHAOSSSSSS!

So today was my first contract day with J.Jill. I'm currently working in the creative department for the catalog. Today was more of a 'test' to see if I had what it takes to concept, design and crack jokes at the same time. You know, something I clearly do on a daily basis as it is! LOL It was VERY intense. Today was a major deadline for one of the catalogs going into review. Which meant people were running around in meetings and frantically running back and forth to the printer like a chicken with its head cut off!

My poor little creative mind is mush at the moment. I felt like a machine! It was exciting though. I was working alongside the two art directors there - doing conceptual layouts and designs for the inside covers of the catalogs. Granted, I cranked out about 15 double page spreads. And if you're a designer and you're reading this, you feel my pain.

But all in all it was good to be busy again and look up and realize the clock on your computer says 5:00 and it's time to go home. I like days like that. Keeps ya busy. :)

So basically today and tomorrow are my only days I am contracting. I hope something comes of it by the end of the week if not next week. I know its a solid position to fill but who knows.

House Party with Pigs

So the title says it all. A good friend of mine Eddie Baker throws AMAZEBALL parties. They are usually the talk of the town a few days after the events. Just good people getting together and drinking until their faces fall off. Keep in mind, I'm in the northeast, house parties are the norm. Anyways, it wasn't even midnight yet and low and behold who shows up? The cops. This party took place in the Mission Hill area - a place swarming with college kids who throw parties every weekend. REWIND - as we walked through the neighborhood after getting of the green line (subway), the noise of rap music and top 40s blarring from the single family homes. Or is it multi-family. I don't know but they were all these huge houses crammed next to one another. People out on the streets talking and clowning around.

The party was great! Almost like back in college where you didn't know if the hall was crowded because that was the only place to stand, or it was the line for the bathroom. Anyhoo, as I"m sitting on the steps outside with a few peeps one cop shows up. The music was not THAT loud and keep in mind, even if someone called about noise this is the first time cops showed up. So he shows up and in true cop form, 4 more cars show up. So now they are shooing us off the steps and telling us to move on. Really? there were three of us on the steps, clearly not disorderly. They break up the party, start ID'ing people (REALLY?) half of the people there were OLDER then the cops, and then they fine my friend Eddie $300.

WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO A WARNING???. Eddie even attempted to negotiate and say "look, we didn't think it was that loud but we'll turn the music down or off completely if it's disturbing the neighbors". The cops were complete a**holes. Slapped him with a citation and made EVERYONE LEAVE. We couldn't even stand on the sidewalk outside.

It's things like this that make me lose respect for cops. It's like doctors have the "God complex". I think it does something to their heads and way of thinking when they put the uniform on and get behind the wheel of a cop car. Word on the street, they were just riding around the neighborhood breaking up parties on purpose. Which I wouldn't be surprised. Every cop I've met has ALWAYS been a total douche bag. Including cops who were acquaintances of mine. I don't think I could respect even my own brother or father if they were cops. Then again, I could always pull that card out at times like this I guess.

Keep in mind I know there are incredible, respectable law enforcement people out there. It's just unfortunate there are so few - and a**holes like these guys give them a bad wrap!

A GPS saved my life!

So tomorrow is the big interview at J.Jill corporate offices. They are located south of Boston in the Quincy area. (Hence the reason I may be living in Dorchester - but that's another post). Anyways, moving on. So tomorrow is my interview and I wanted to take the drive out there - which is only about 20 mins away - to experience it and map out where I am going. Technically I've been keeping my Magellan GPS system in my trunk in the event it gets broken into. Well I forgot it in my trunk and already had my iPhone mapped out. Well the navigation on the iPhone is great - IF YOU'RE WALKING IN THE CITY! And even then it can't tell if I'm going north or south. Oh the joys of modern technology.

Well as most of you know, the route system on the iPhone is pretty handy. However, it's not handy when you're trying to read your phone and travel through a city you've never driven before. Especially having a Texas license plate. That's like telling Dick Cheney "shoot me, I have antlers". I purposely think people are more rude to me just when they see my license plate. It's the only time I'm actually embarrassed that I've come from Houston. But all in all there is no place like home. *tear*

OKay moving on - so needless to say this hand to eye coordination thing just isn't working. Especially driving at 70 mph down a road you've never driven. Well time goes by and I realize to myself "self....why are you on a different highway now and J.Jill is 4 miles back. Their headquarters are located in Battery March Park area. ------I'm now in MILTON!!!! (So for those from the Boston area reading this, it's funny now isn't it?) Needless to say, I managed to pull over and get my trusty Magellan GPS to guide me back to their headquarters (which is only 20 mins away from my house). LOL

Amazing buildings/campus. I'm excited about going tomorrow. My interview is at 2:00 with the head of the department and then again with the two art directors. Fingers crossed! I'm just ready to get my routine back, and stop depending on unemployment to get by. Which by the way, is STILL frozen. But at least they aren't accusing me of fraud anymore. PHEW! LOL

I'll be sure to make a post tomorrow and let you guys know how everything went. :) Gotta go - melatonin is kicking in. Yes, I haven't been sleeping well. I guess my body is still adjusting to the time change. But thank baby Jesus for the 70 degree weather here with NO humidity. Now that is some good timeeeesszzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.............

Blog it like it's Hot!!!

So it's 5:14am and I can't sleep. I decided for some insane reason to create a blog. I've actually been wanting to do this for some time and what better time now then when I've moved to Boston. I technically should have started this the day I arrived (last Saturday, August 7th) but alas, I didn't. So already you've missed one hell of a drive from Houston, Texas to the great city of Boston. And the most BORING drive you'll ever take. Considering Vinny, my badass dog, isn't much for conversation. Luckily he rode co-pilot along with Jesus.

I'll try to keep these posts as witty and entertaining as possible. Mainly touching on the differences between my life in the south verses my new life here up north. Especially in Houston! For example - there is this phenomenon known as PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. Hhhhmmm imagine that. People......taking the bus......or subway.......or even worse.......ACTUALLY WALKING to their respected destinations? GET OUT OF TOWN!!!!...........and so I did :)

Welcome to one hell of a party!
